Bertram L. Lawson II

Senior Vice President, Operations

Bertram L. Lawson II joined the Y in Central Maryland serving as a Senior Vice President, Operations on December 6, 2017. In this role, Bertram will provide operational leadership for our Baltimore City health and wellness operations, youth development (mentoring & Y Achievers), school partnerships and camp services.

Bertram has had an impressive Y career, with significant operational, membership, grant delivery, partnership, fundraising and program experience. He has spent over 20 years in various roles at the Philadelphia Freedom Valley Y, most recently as Vice President of Operations, Camp Services, & Diversity, Inclusion and Global Engagement.In Philadelphia he directly supervises (6) Executive Directors and (3) association department heads and has been responsible for a budget portfolio exceeding $32 million, including fundraising campaigns exceeding $1.4 million annually.

Bertram is a native North Philadelphian and attended the prestigious Central High School of Philadelphia (252nd Graduating class). He has a bachelor’s degree from Lincoln University and is currently working towards a MBA from Wilmington University. Bertram holds multiple Y-USA certifications, including Organizational Leader. Bertram is also a graduate of the Y-USA C Level Suite Coaching Program as well as the Multi-Cultural Executive Development Institute. He serves on several Y-USA’s committees including the National Membership Taskforce, Diversity Leadership Council and Multicultural Advisory Committee. Bertram is the recently appointed National Chairperson for Y-USA’s African American Employee Resource Network (AARN). He is an active member of the Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc.; where he was duly initiated via Beta Chapter in 1996.

Bertram is the proud father of four children and husband to Melissa C. Lawson.
